The ACP Music Festivals Network Meeting in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, finished successfully on 31 January. Music professionals from the Caribbean region (Barbados, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia and Belize), from Europe (France, UK, Germany) and Africa (Cape Verde) met local artists/professionals to learn from each other and explore Haitian talent. The Club Contemporary Classical Festival is kicking off tomorrow in Germany and Poland. The C3 Festival, a "labor of love" put together by Classical:Next Director Jennifer Dautermann, presents new music which falls into the grey zone between the genres of contemporary classical and electronic club music, from tighly-structured techno through to free-flowing ambient.
An international program ranging from the avantgarde to the downright funky will be presented from 23 November through 3 December in unique locations in Berlin, Germany (Berghain and Radialsystem), in Essen,Germany (Welterbe Zollverein) and in Gdansk, Poland (St. John's Center).

According to an article in the New York Times by Charly Wilder from early November 2011, DIY initiatives in arts/culture/nightlife are blossoming all over Thessaloniki, WOMEX's next host city, 17-21 October 2012:
"It was early August, and clouds of tear gas drifted through much of Athens, the remnants of protests against austerity measures. But the country's financial woes seemed far from the minds of the smartly disheveled young Greeks packed onto the roof terrace of the newly opened Fragile bar in Salonika, about 320 miles north of the capital. T-shirt-clad art students shouted over a mix of vintage doo-wop and '90s alt-rock, or ducked into the covered bar area, which evoked a vaguely postal theme, its corkboard-lined walls cross-hatched with packing tape..."...
