Key Music Professionals from Africa Meet at WOMEX

(Photo by Eric van Nieuwland)The South African umbrella organisation SAMEX will be present at the WOMEX Trade Fair with more stands than ever before. David Alexander from SAMEX, acknowledges "WOMEX is a cutting edge conference which keeps musicians, record labels, and entertainment businesses up-to-date on the latest industry developments. SAMEX encourages young economically empowered music companies from South Africa to enter the international market and participate at WOMEX to present themselves to professionals both from Africa and all over the world, to ensure their local sustainability and success."

The African Music Export Office BEMA based in Dakar (Senegal) will be be exhibiting at WOMEX, as will be Umané Culture (Burkina Faso), Afrik'Aktion (Gabon) and Busara Promotions (Tanzania) - all part of the ACP Music Festivals Network.

The African Music Export Office BEMA has also set up a Networking Meeting at WOMEX assembling BEMA members as well as interested non-members on Saturday morning, 30 October at Forum Copenhagen. More...

Nordic Countries Show Strong Presence at WOMEX

(Photo: Ragga Gröndal & Icelandic Folk Ensemble by Svavar Jónatansson) Following on from the success last year, the WOMEX Trade Fair will be housing a Nordic area again in 2010. Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland have already confirmed their participation at the spacious Nordic umbrella stand.

And to complement this will be the special Nordic nights on Thursday, Friday and Saturday inviting the delegates to discover the music of WOMEX's current home region. The Nordic Club will be featuring local pearls from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland.

Global Music Centre Celebrates 30 Year Anniversary

The Global Music Centre in Helsinki, Finland, is an institute with the key task of collating, recording and distributing information about global music culture. The principal aim is to increase the understanding of individual and group values in different types of music, amongst listeners, musicians and researchers, and to expand awareness of the importance of music as a form of communication and as something which strengthens identity. (Eric van Nieuwland) WOMEX will be offering Matchmaking Sessions for publishers attending the 2010 edition. This new service aims to promote networking opportunities at WOMEX and connect interested business partners from around the world - free of charge.

WOMEX Matchmaking will orientate itself towards music publishers who want to offer their services as a sub-publisher and/or are looking for a sub- publisher in other areas of the world. WOMEX provides a perfect platform to host this new feature due to its high proportion of international delegates. Last year at WOMEX 09, there were over 200 music publishers alone, representing around 50 different countries.
